Maine Historical Society Announces New Reading and Discussion Program

"Hard Working Maine" is the title of the MHS's new Reading and Discussion Program. The programs will run monthly with 4 sessions from Thurs., Feb. 18 - Thurs., May 20, 2010.

Maine Island Readers and Writers Big Read of 2010


Eight communities making up the Island Readers and Writers group choose Call of the Wild by Jack London for their 2010 Big Read.

Adventures of a dog named Buck who becomes leader of a wolf pack in the Klondike gold fields.


The following 8 communities are hosting book discussions and activities centered around this book:
Frenchboro
Town of Mt. Desert
Southwest Harbor
Swan's Island
Great Cranberry
Bar Harbor
Isle au Haut
Islesford
Deer Isle

Windham Public Library Book Group Shares Book Titles


For November:
The Help by Kathryn Stockett
-3 very different woman join together in 60's Mississipi to change a town


For December:
The War of the Worlds by H. G. Wells
-science fiction novel depicting an alien invasion of Victorian England




The book group has been meeting since August 2004.
